WHAT IS LED?
“In 2014, the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to three Japanese physicists. The three Japanese physicists who won the award made major contributions to the invention of white light emitting diodes, making white light emitting diodes popular as a new type of light source. . .”
Light-emitting diodes, commonly known as LEDs, are truly unsung heroes in the electronics field. The led material is more conductive than any other material, and they do a lot of different jobs, which can be seen in various devices. LED Diodes are one of the most common devices in semiconductor equipment.
The diode is a combination of N-type semiconductor material and P-type semiconductor material, and each end carries electrons. This arrangement allows current to flow in only one direction.
On the other hand, the LED is also known as “cold light”. Unlike with old-fashioned incandescent bulbs, the light is not produced by heating a metal filament. It is one of the most energy-efficient and power-saving ways to produce light.
ADVANTAGES OF LED
1. Energy saving, more than 80% energy saving than incandescent lamps, and more than 50% energy saving than energy-saving lamps.
2. Small size, light weight, not afraid of vibration.
3. High luminous efficiency, 8 times that of 15m/w of incandescent lamp and more than 2 times of 50 Lm/w of fluorescent lamp.
4. The light color can be selected, and the luminous color and color temperature of the LED light source can be used flexibly.
5. Good directionality, LED light-emitting angle can be adjusted flexibly.
6. Environmental protection: no harmful substances such as mercury contained in energy-saving lamps.
7. The cold light source has no ultraviolet and infrared, so there is no heat and no radiation.
8. Long life span, up to 50,000 to 100,000 hours, more than 10-50 times longer than the life span of traditional light sources.
9. Fast response speed, nanosecond level.
HOW DOES AN LED DISPLAY WORK?
An LED display consists of many closely-spaced LEDs. By varying the brightness of each LED, the diodes jointly form an image on the display.
The LED display is composed of many closely arranged LEDs. By changing the brightness of each LED, the diodes collectively form an image on the display.
The LED display consists of red, green and blue LEDs installed in a fixed pattern. The combination of these three colors forms a pixel.
In order to create bright color images, the principle of additive color mixing is used, that is, by mixing different colors of light, while changing the brightness of each color to create a new color.
By adjusting the intensity of the diode, billions of colors can be formed. When you look at the LED screen from a certain distance, the color pixel array is regarded as an image.
A display screen used to display various information such as text, graphics, images, animation, market quotations, videos, and video signals.
WHAT IS RGB?
RGB is the color representing the three channels of red, green, and blue.
A variety of colors are obtained by changing the three color channels of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) and superimposing them with each other.
Therefore, RGB has become a color standard in the industry.
This standard includes almost all colors that human vision can perceive, and is one of the most widely used color systems.
All the colors on the computer screen are composed of the red, green and blue colors mixed in different proportions. A group of red, green and blue is the smallest display unit.
WHAT IS SMD?
SMD is short for Surface Mounted Devices, which is one of SMT (Surface Mount Technology) components.
At present, indoor full-color LED screens mainly use surface mount three-in-one SMD — three different colors of RGB are packaged into SMT lamps, and then the LEDs are packaged in the same gel at a certain interval to form a display module.
When diodes are packaged in this way, they take up much less space, which can produce displays with smaller diode pitch and higher resolution.
OUTDOOR LED DISPLAY : DIP VS SMD
The DIP outdoor LED display is made of DIP lamp beads.
Representative product models include P8 outdoor direct-plug led screen, P10 outdoor led display, and P16 outdoor DIP led display.
The main feature is high brightness and good waterproof effect.
The disadvantage is that poor control of the height of the lamp beads will cause problems such as color difference, poor brightness uniformity, and small viewing angle, and it is impossible to make a smaller dot pitch outdoor LED display.
SMD brings new possibilities.
Because the RGB three colors are packaged in a single lamp bead, the problem of poor brightness and color consistency caused by the unevenness of the straight plug lamp bead is solved.
And SMD lamp beads can be made smaller, so it is also possible to make outdoor LED large screens develop to a smaller pitch. The brightness can also meet the requirements of outdoor environment use.
WHAT IS NEXT ?
Outdoor LED transparent display is a new type of product, mainly used in glass curtain walls, window cabinets, special effects screens in large shopping malls, rental screens, etc.
The led transparent screen is mainly installed indoors. People can watch it outdoors because it is not waterproof.
The transparent led display is named because of its relatively high light transmittance. Its main features are high light transmittance, good energy saving effect, light and thin installation, and good heat dissipation effect.
HOW MUCH POWER DOES AN LED DISPLAY USE?
LED is an energy-efficient technology. Compared with other lighting methods, LED saves more power. This is also the reason why LED lights are popular today. The power of the diode in the LED display depends on the type, brightness and usage of the display.
There are many different types of LEDs and displays. For example, the power consumption of outdoor digital signage is much greater than that of indoor displays.
Because outdoor led billboards must be visible under direct sunlight. In this way, the brightness of outdoor advertising screens is generally higher than that of indoors.
Brightness is also a major factor. The higher the brightness, the higher the energy consumption of the LED display. The image must be clear, but the light from the display must not be dazzling. Outdoor LED displays need to be brighter during the day than when night falls.
The displayed content also has an impact. The LED monitor displays images by turning on and adjusting the brightness of the color diodes. Compared to white text on a black background, an all-white image with black text requires more LEDs—and more power.
HOW LONG DOES AN LED DISPLAY LAST?
Regardless of the impact of the environment, as long as we use the led display correctly and maintain it properly, the led display can be used for more than 10 years.Of course, this is a very ideal idea.
In fact, factors such as humidity and salt content in our air will cause the components of the display to age until the LED display fails. Compared with darker images and lower brightness, brighter images and higher brightness will also make it easier to damage components on the display.
Like all types of electronic products, the life expectancy of LED displays is also affected by daily use and the surrounding environment of the display.
Because many factors play a role, it is difficult to specify the lifespan of an LED display.
During the entire life cycle of the LED display, the light output of the diode will decrease. How much depends on the type and algebra of the diode. Many LED displays never use their full light intensity, so reduction is rarely a problem.
WHAT IS PIXEL PITCH AND DISPLAY RESOLUTION?
Pixel pitch refers to the distance (in millimeters) from the center of a pixel to the center of adjacent pixels.
If an LED display has a pixel pitch of 1 cm, there may be 100 x 100 pixels per square metre of display. The resolution of a display is given as a pair of numbers that indicate the width and height in pixels. If you have a 6 x 8-metre screen with 1 cm in pixel pitch, it has a resolution of 600 x 800 pixels.
Key points:
● Pixel pitch refers to the density of pixels
●Smaller pixel pitch means higher pixel density and higher resolution
●The pixel pitch is important because it affects the viewing distance
●The smaller the pixel pitch, the closer the viewing distance
●The best viewing distance of the screen also reflects the pixel pitch value
WHAT RESOLUTION SHOULD I CHOOSE?
The required resolution of the LED display depends on the viewing distance.
From what distance will your audience view the display?
If you watch a low-resolution LED display at a close distance, it will be difficult to see the content on the display.
There is usually a link between display resolution and price. The smaller the pixel pitch, the higher the resolution, and the more diodes per square meter-so the price of square meters is higher.
If you install a billboard on the middle level of a shopping mall or department store, the audience will often watch the advertisement at a close distance. Here, the high-resolution display shows the best results.
But if you install digital signage next to the main road or on the facade of a building, you can see it within a certain distance. Here, high-resolution displays will be unnecessary—and unnecessarily expensive.
A good rule of thumb for LED displays is that there is a pixel pitch of 1 mm per meter of viewing distance.
For example, if your viewing distance is 10 meters, then you choose P10, if your viewing distance is 2 meters, then you choose P2.
WHAT IS NITS?
WHAT IS EMC?
EMC means Electromagnetic Compatibility.
What is electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing?
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing measures the ability of equipment or systems to function satisfactorily in their electromagnetic environment without introducing intolerable electromagnetic disturbance to anything in that environment.
All electrical devices emit radiation to a greater or lesser degree. The radiation is not harmful to humans but may affect other electrical devices.
To prevent electrical devices from having an adverse effect on each other, the EU has introduced an EMC Directive. The Directive ensures that electrical and electronic equipment does not generate, or is not affected by, electromagnetic disturbance.
It is an important directive, as at airports and hospitals, for example, it may be dangerous if devices have an adverse effect on each other. All Dreamistar displays comply with the EU EMC Directive.
